Have a day, James Hagens.
While the New York Islanders have two prospects playing for Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Championships, it was Long Island native James Hagens who stole the show in Game 1 against Team Germany.
The 18-year-old from Hauppage, Long Island, played in his first IIHF World Championships game, skating alongside Boston College linemates Ryan Leonard (Washington Capitals) and Gabriel Perrault (New York Rangers).
Hagens ended his night with four points (two goals, two assists) in a 10-4 win.
The youngster got Team USA on the board at 8:07 of the first after he roofed a loose puck that was chilling just above the goal line:
Then, Hagens found Perrault in the slot, who roofed a wrister high glove side to give Team USA a 2-0 lead at 11:56 of the first:
But Hahen wasn't done just yet.
At 14:01 of the second, we got a Hagens snipe, as Germany gave him WAY too much time in the slot to pick his spot:
Then, at 19:39 of the second, Hagens earned the secondary assist on Perreault's second goal of the game to bring the Long Island native's point total up to four with a period left to play.
Islanders prospect Cole Eiserman recorded a goal and an assist, while Danny Nelson played a solid two-way game, getting time on the penalty kill.
