On Monday, the New York Islanders announced forward Mathew Barzal will be out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.
The 27-year-old, who had already missed 21 games due to an upper-body injury earlier in the season, sustained his latest injury after he blocked a Darren Raddysh slapshot off the left knee with 1:20 to play in the third on Saturday:
Barzal missed Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Florida Panthers as he was still being evaluated.
The Islanders also announced that defenseman Scott Mayfield, who missed the final 23:51 of Saturday's game, is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Long Island is also without defenseman Ryan Pulock (IR), Noah Dobson (LTIR), and Mike Reilly (LTIR) and goaltenders Semyon Varlamov (LTIR) and Marcus Hogberg (IR) at this time.
The Islanders, who snapped a seven-game winning streak on Sunday, will try to continue to survive in the Eastern Conference Wild-Card race as they host the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday at 7:30 PM ET, their third-to-last game before the NHL's Four Nations Face-Off.
