Since stepping foot on Long Island, No. 1 overall pick Matthew Schaefer has shown the New York Islanders fans all the love in the world.

The fans have shown in right back, especially this past week at Northwell Ice Center for the open practices and scrimmages at development camp.

On Sunday, the Islanders faithful gave Schaefer one of the biggest honors imaginable, hanging a customized No. 48 Schaefer jersey on one of the walls at Boardy Barn.

For those that are unfamiliar with the establishment, Boardy Barn was a bar in Hampton Bays that was a hot spot for kids home from college.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, it closed in 2021; however, the name and brand have found a way to stay alive through pop-up events in Patchogue.

Schaefer, who wore No. 71 at development camp hopes he can wear No. 48 with the big club, if he makes the team this year.

His good pal, Matthew Maggio, currently wears that number for the Bridgeport Islanders.
