On Thursday, the New York, New Jersey & Connecticut Attorneys General made statements about the ongoing feud between MSG Networks and Altice USA.
The MSG Network and Altice dilemma roles on as we approach the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off break.
New York Islanders fans, along with fans of the New York Rangers, New York Knicks, and New Jersey Devils who subscribe to Altice/Optimum, have been unable to watch their favorite sports teams hit the ice or the court since January 1st.
MSG Network has repeatedly shown an eagerness to end this issue and get the fans back watching, but it has been unable to reach an agreement with Altice, the cable company charging its customers for a channel they no longer have access to.
On Thursday, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, and New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin expressed their displeasure with Altice, calling for their customers to be automatically refunded, given that they are being denied access to MSG.
Here's what all three had to say, per the release:
Attorney General James: “New York sports fans are being put in the penalty box, forced to shell out their hard-earned money for television channels they cannot even watch. “Optimum customers have paid for channels to watch their home sports teams, but their cable company is not offering these channels while charging them anyway. I am determined to secure a solution for New Yorkers who have had to endure these unfair blackouts and I urge Optimum and MSG to finally reach a deal so New Yorkers can watch their home teams.”
Attorney General Platkin: “We urge Optimum and MSG to resolve their dispute and end the blackout so that New Jersey consumers can once again access the services they paid for to watch their favorite local teams play,
Attorney General Tong: “Optimum and MSG need to stop the posturing and get back to the table. Figure it out, and let us watch our sports in peace.“In the meantime, consumers are paying for sports they can’t watch, and they are owed immediate refunds without hassle.”
MSG Networks "applaud the Attorneys General in demanding Altice do right by its subscribers and either issue a full refund or immediately reach an agreement to return MSG Networks to Optimum subscribers."
