    Hockey is coming.

As the calendar turns from August to September, it's time to buckle up and prepare for the 2024-25 NHL season.

In a few weeks, the New York Islanders will be hosting their version of rookie camp, followed by the start of training camp and, eventually, some preseason action.

Let's dive into a few dates to jot down on your calendar.

    Matt Martin Poker Tournament

On Sept. 9 at Opus Steakhouse in Jericho, NY, don't miss the opportunity to mingle with your favorite Islanders players, whether that's at the poker table or around the restaurant.

You must be 21 or older to attend.

You can purchase individual poker entry tickets and full poker tables. If you want to come as a spectator, there are a limited number of tickets, so don't wait.

    Anders Lee Jam Kancer Event

On Sept. 14, from 12:30 to 4 p.m., Islanders captain Anders Lee will host a Kancer Jam at Northwell Ice Center.

Registration is now open for a maximum of 32 teams to participate.

Like last year's event, the live auction will go live around Sept. 7 and remain open until Sept. 21 or so.

More information about the event and Jam Kancer in the Kan is available at the foundation's website HERE

    2024-25 Rookie Camp

Unlike many other teams, the Islanders do not hold their rookie camp right after the NHL Draft. Instead, they have their prospects come to Long Island about a week before the NHL veterans report.

Although we don't have an official date for the start of rookie camp, the youngsters hit the ice last season on Sept. 14.

However with preseason beginning earlier this year, it's possible they hit the ice as soon as next week

Do not expect the Islanders' NCAA players, such as Cole Eiserman, Kamil Bednarik, Danny Nelson, and Quinn Finley, to be in attendance.

They will likely already be at school preparing for the season.

2024 New York Islanders Golf Outing

On Sept. 16, the Islanders will host their annual golf outing to benefit the Islanders Children's Foundation.

The event will occur at the Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury and begin at 10 a.m.

Usually, the entire team hits the links, with alumni, team executives, fans, and sponsors joining them.

For the first time, tennis will also be played -- not just golf.

This golf outing is the unofficial start of the Islanders season, as a few days later, they'll likely hit the ice for training camp.

    2024-25 NHL Training Camp

After the fun on the golf course, the Islanders will hit the ice for training camp.

With the Islanders' golf outing on Sept. 16, the vets could join the prospects a few days later.

Training camp started Sept. 21 last season.

We spoke with Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello before camp started in 2023, who explained how it would run.

The expectation is that there will be three groups: two groups of NHLers mixed with prospects and another group of players who are likely to start the season in the AHL.

The groups rotate time slots, while the goalies remain on at the same time each day.

This will be Patrick Roy's first training camp, so we will see what kind of spin he puts on it as he prepares his squad for opening night on Oct. 10 against the Utah Hockey Club at UBS Arena.

    2024 Preseason Schedule

The Islanders will play six preseason games to prepare for the regular season.

    Here's the schedule:

As you can see, the Islanders play the same teams three times apiece, and all of their home games are at UBS Arena.

There will be none at Bridgeport.

Following their final preseason game on Oct. 4, the Islanders will make their final roster cut. They will then have six days to prepare before the season-opener against the Utah Hockey Club on Oct. 10 at UBS Arena.

We will update you when rookie camp and training camp dates become official.
