Here's our 2024 NHL Draft live blog, which will be updated with relevant information pertaining to the New York Islanders.

LAS VEGAS -- The 2024 NHL Draft is here which means anything is possible regarding player movement.

Rather than release 30-plus articles every time something is said that may pertain to the New York Islanders, I'm going to be running a live blog.

We are going to start with the trade between the Los Angeles Kings and the Montreal Canadiens.

The Kings just sent the 26th, 57th, and 198th picks to the Canadiens in exchange for the 21st pick.

How does this relate to the Islanders?

The Canadiens clearly wanted to move up in the draft, but why not higher than 21?

That's because Lamoriello likely wasn't willing to move the 20th pick.

Sure, he and his scouts might have a player they hope falls to them at No. 20, but let's be real.

    That's a pretty difficult gamble.

What's more likely is that Lamoriello has a deal in place at No. 20 or the potential for a deal depending on what happens early in the first round.

The Hockey News has learned that pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Mike Reilly and the Islanders are in talks about a possible extension.

Claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers on Nov. 25, the 30-year-old may have been one of the more underrated pick-ups in the NHL during the 2023-24 season.

In 61 games with New York, Reilly scored six goals, the most he's scored in his nine-year NHL career, and had 18 assists, tying a career-high.

He is a perfect fit in Patrick Roy's system.

This article will be updated as the day progresses.
