The Islanders snapped a three-game winning streak on Sunday night.

Ilya Sorokin chat

The New York Islanders notched their first win of 2025, beating the Boston Bruins 5-4 in overtime to snap a three-game skid after blowing a two-goal lead.

Bo Horvat scored the game-winning goal on the breakaway after some brilliance by goaltender Ilya Sorokin in the extra frame:

Here's how the game unfolded:

The bounces don't usually go the Islanders' way, and that's how this game began as a puck thrown to the low slot deflected off of Cole Koepke and past Sorokin:

The Islanders' bid for goaltender interference failed, putting them on the penalty kill.

Instead of allowing a power-play goal, they took advantage of a shorthanded rush after Jean-Gabriel Pageau found Bo Horvat on a 2-on-1 rush to the score:

Then, just 2:11 later, Ryan Pulock's knuckler gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead:

The Islanders survived a Boston push at the end of the second and got back to their scoring ways early in the third.

At 4:11 of the third, Anders Lee sniped Korpisalo glove side on a 2-on-1 rush to give the Islanders a 3-1 lead:

The Bruins got one back after the Islanders allowed them too much time and space. Andrew Peeke fed Justin Brazeau for a one-time finish with Horvat right there:

Lee scored his second of the game with a deke in front of Korpisalo at 3:41 of the third after a strong deed from Pulock:

Then, just 54 seconds later, Pageau did a no-no, trying to go across the Islanders zone before Morgan Geekie fed David Pastrnak, who beat Sorokin with a one-time to make it a 4-3 game at 4:35 of the third:

Pastrnak wasn't done, tying the game at 4-4 after Alexander Romanov failed to tie him up at the back post:

And, as you read, Horvat played hero.
