Difference Between Varlamov & Sorokin

For the New York Islanders, it's one down and three to go.

After knocking off the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 on Saturday, the focus shifts to surviving another elimination game on Tuesday.

Puck drop from PNC Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Morning Skate Updates:

The Islanders will not be making one lineup change for Tuesday's game, with Simon Holmstrom returning to the lineup for the first time since Game 2,

He'll play in place of Ruslan Iskhakov, who skated in Matt Martin's spot on Saturday after the veteran forward suffered a lower-body injury.

Semyon Varlamov will remain in net for the Islanders after getting New York their first win of the series. He earned the win on 42 saves in the double-overtime victory on Saturday.

Playoffs included, he is now 7-6-4 with a 2.38 GAA and .924 SV% against the Hurricanes.

Carolina will not make any lineup changes either with a chance to win the series, despite Saturday's loss, but are changing their lines.

More on that below.

Frederik Andersen is expected to start for the Hurricanes in their second chance to put the Islanders away.

He made 32 saves on 35 shots in Saturday's loss. Following the defeat, he is 7-4-0 with a 3.44 GAA and .910 SV% against the Islanders' lifetime.

Game 4 Recap:

With the Islanders' season on the line on Saturday, it was Carolina who broke the ice in Game 4. Seth Jarvis scored the first goal of the game eight minutes into the first period on the power play after Jake Guentzel won a net-front battle, but New York answered with Mathew Barzal's first goal of the series.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau gave the Islanders the lead on a man-advantage goal off this own, but the Hurricanes once again had the answer.

Again, on the power play, Stefan Noesen leveled the score at two with less than six minutes to play in regulation, forcing sudden death. The opening 20 didn't solve anything, resulting in a second overtime frame which lasted less than two minutes. Barzal tipped home a Robert Bortuzo point shot to give New York the 3-2 win and life in the series.

Players To Watch:

Anders Lee got an assist on Pageau's power-play goal, making him the only Islander with all four points in the series. The Islanders' captain has a goal and three assists in the four games.

Barzal and Bo Horvat broke out of their struggles in the early stages of the series. Barzal lit the lamp twice, and Horvat got helpers on both of those goals; the pair also hooked up on Horvat's red light in Game 2.

While kept off the board on Saturday, Nelson leads the Islanders in lifetime goals and points against Carolina with 18 and 35, respectively. Lee's helper gives him 20 against Carolina, including playoff action.

Noesen's goal to force extra time on Saturday was his second of the series, joining his game-winner in the series opener. He has six goals against New York lifetime, four of them in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Guentzel is averaging a point-per-game in the series, tallying assists in both of the matchups at UBS Arena. He had a goal and assist the last time the two teams met in Raleigh. Martin Necas also averaged a point in each game, tallying two helpers on Long Island in addition to a goal and assist in Game 1.

Teuvo Teravainen has recorded points in three straight games in the series, totaling a goal and two assists in that span. He has four goals and four assists in 10 playoff games against the Islanders.

While Jordan Staal only has one assist in the series, he leads the Hurricanes in overall scoring against New York with 17 goals, 38 assists, and 55 points. Forward Sebastian Aho is the top scorer for Carolina against the Islanders in the playoffs, boasting eight goals, six assists, and 14 points.
