For the first time at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships, Team USA head coach David Carle decided to split up New York Islanders prospects Danny Nelson and Cole Eiserman ahead of their New Year's Eve battle with Team Canada.
Despite the line changes, both players came through in a 4-1 victory over their arch-rival.
With the game knotted up at 1-1 early in the third period, Nelson sniped blocker side from the high slot on the power play to get USA back on top:
That was Nelson's third goal of the tournament and fourth point, with that goal serving as the game-winner.
Then, with 6:39 to play in regulation, with USA holding on to their slim one-goal lead, Eiserman faked a one-timer before ripping one below the bar blocker side:
Eiserman, who started the game as the 13th forward, now has two goals and four assists at the tournament.
The 18-year-old also assisted on Cole Hutson's opening tally, a light tap up the boards to the shifty defenseman before another roof job:
Team USA will now play Team Switzerland on Jan. 2 at 2:30 ET on NHL Network/TSN.
Nelson's three goals are tied for the USA team lead, while Eiserman's four assists and six points are second behind Hutson.
