The New York Islanders have activated forward Hudson Fasching out of injured reserve, per the NHL's media site:
Head coach Patrick Roy said on Thursday morning the 29-year-old would be part of the traveling crew to Manitoba. The Islanders will play the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night before facing the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night to conclude their schedule before the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off.
Fasching, who hasn't played since sustaining an upper-body injury in their 5-4 overtime win against the Boston Bruins on Jan. 5, has no points in 19 games this season.
He was able to be activated with Mathew Barzal landing on IR on Tuesday, which opened up a roster spot.
Fasching is unlikely to play as the Islanders' bottom six have been tremendously good as of late:
Casey Cizikas-JG Pageau-Simon Holmstrom
Pierre Engvall-Kyle MacLean-Marc Gatcomb
However, if Fasching were to play, he would likely get in for Engvall, who, despite playing better as of late, lacks the physicality.
Fasching is in the final season of his two-year deal and has a lot to prove after back-to-back injury-riddled seasons.
