New York Islanders prospect Isaiah George (98th overall in 2022) and the London Knights have won the OHL Championships.
After setting up the double overtime dagger in Game 3 of the OHL Finals, George recorded an assist in London's 7-1 victory on Wednesday night to sweep the Oshawa Generals:
It was a strong give-and-go play between George and regular season playoff MVP Easton Cowen (Toronto Maple Leafs: 28th overall in 2023) before George's try on goal was denied, with Denver Barkey (Philadelphia Flyers: 95th overall in 2023) scoring on the rebound:
Outside of the primary assist, George looked exceptional out there. He used his strong passing to help the transition game and his skating to create time and space for himself.
His skating and edgework, along with his positioning, was the biggest standout from this past training camp, where Islanders veteran Ryan Pulock said that George's play was actually pushing the NHLers to step up theirs:
George ended his OHL Playoffs on a three-game point streak with three assists.
In the 18 playoff games, George had four goals and eight assists, leading the London backend with 45 shots on goal, 2.5 per game.
Now, George and the Knights advance to the 2024 Memorial Cup, which begins Friday, May 24, in Saginaw, Michigan.
George, who will be joining the Islanders organization for the 2024-25 season, had six goals and 24 assists for 30 points in 60 regular season games.
This was George's second trip to the OHL Finals, with the Knights falling in six games to the Peterborough Petes in 2023.
