Gauthier made his season debut on Saturday.
Following his seasondebut against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, the New York Islanders have placed forward Julien Gauthier on waivers:
Gauthier, 27, slotted in for Oliver Wahlstrom on the team's fourth line against Montreal. He clocked 7:42 of ice time without recording a shot. The appearance was his first in the final year of a two-year contract, carrying an average cap hit of $787,500.
The move comes the day after the Islanders lost forward Anthony Duclair in the game due to a lower-body injury.
Head Coach Patrick Roy did not provide an immediate update following the contest.
According to Puckpedia, the Islanders currently have $226,667 in cap space. The team was over the cap until just before the season, where Pierre Engvall was sent down to AHL Bridgeport.
The Islanders will wait until 2:00 p.m. tomorrow to find out whether or not Gauthier was claimed by another team.
The Islanders would have $1.05 million if he clears.
New York did not practice on Sunday, so more information on Duclair or any further roster moves could become available at practice on Monday.
The Islanders return to action on Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings at UBS Arena, puck drop is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
