The Islanders have fired Lane Lambert.

The Islanders have fired Lane Lambert.

After going winless on their four-game road trip (0-3-1), New York Islanders president and general manager Lou Lamoriello has relieved Lane Lambert of his head coaching duties.

The new head coach of the Islanders is Patrick Roy,

This came less than 24 hours after Lambert ripped his players, citing, "I don’t feel the team is anywhere near where it can be or should be. We have some players on the team that we clearly need more from.”

It seemed like a coach who was making one final statement to a group that struggled to play to their potential last season and over the course of his two-year tenure at the helm.

After sitting second in the Metropolitan Division a month ago, the club finds themselves sixth, two points out of the second wild-card spot in the East, with time to turn things around.

In comes Roy to try and fix what's broken.

Roy, a Hall of Fame goaltender, won the Jack Adams Trophy in 2013-14 with the Colorado Avalanche, going 130-92-24 over his three seasons as their bench boss.

In his time since leaving the Avalanche bench at the end of the 2017-18 season, he's served as the general manager and coach of the Quebec Ramparts of the QMJHL.
