The New York Islanders recalled forward Marcus Gatcomb from the Bridgeport Islanders of the American Hockey League (AHL):
The 25-year-old has nine goals, eight assists, and 17 points in 34 AHL games this season.
He was signed to a one-year, $775,000 contract this past offseason. He had previously played with the Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL.
In 146 career regular-season AHL games, he has 21 goals, 24 assists, and 45 points.
He has yet to play in an NHL game in his career. He did play four seasons at UConn.
Islanders forward Simon Holmstrom was placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury on Jan. 7.
The Islanders brought just 12 forwards on their recent road trip, but Gatcomb will give head coach Patrick Roy an additional option ahead of the team's upcoming seven-game homestand.
The Islanders held an optional morning skate so we’ll see if this emergency recall means one of the regulars are out.
