Fresh off of clinching a playoff spot on Monday night, the New York Islanders looked ahead to the future, signing Michigan defenseman Marshall Warren to his entry-level contract.

Islanders Practicing Power Play

Fresh off of clinching a playoff spot on Monday night, the New York Islanders looked ahead to the future.

The team announced on Tuesday they signed defenseman Marshall Warren to a two-year entry-level contract:

Warren, 22, played for the Michigan Wolverines this past season, totaling four goals and 14 assists in 41 games.

Before Michigan, he spent four years at Boston College, totaling 27 goals and 30 assists in 130 games with the Eagles.

In his final season at Boston College, Warren served as their captain, wearing an "A" in his first and only season at Michigan.

"Standing at five-foot-11 and weighing 163 pounds, Marshall is a mobile defenseman who moves around the offensive zone a lot, showcasing a strong hockey IQ," a scout told The Hockey News.

"He got some time quarterbacking their power play as well."

The Daily Faceoff's Jonny Lazarus, who played Division I hockey at UMass and Mercyhurst, has skated with Warren a ton and provided some insight.

“Marshall has always been one of the standouts on Long Island from an early age," Lazarus told THN. "If you played competitive hockey, you knew who Marshall Warren was. He’s always been an incredible skater and from the few times we’ve skated together, a very likable and good kid.

"As a player, he has incredible offensive instincts for a defenseman and plays at such a high pace. He’ll bring the Islanders some more speed on the backend.”

Here's a look at some of his collegiate highlights:

The moves come as the Islanders signed a handful of collegiate talent to professional contracts. The team also signed Merrimack forward Alex Jefferies to an amateur tryout before likely signing his ELC this offseason.

Like Jefferies, Marshall will join the Bridgeport Islanders on an ATO before his ELC takes effect.
