    The NHL has fined Islanders forward Mathew Barzal $5,000, the maximum allowed under the CBA, for high-sticking Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo at 2:59 of the second period of Saturday night's 4-3 overtime loss.

    The New York Islanders blew a 3-0 lead to the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night, falling 4-3 in overtime.

    To add insult to injury, the NHL has fined Islanders forward Mathew Barzal $5,000, the maximum allowed under the CBA, for high-sticking Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo at 2:59 of the second period.

    Barzal was given a two-minute minor on the play.

    The Islanders and Tony DeAngelo already have bad blood from his time with the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.

    Last season, DeAngelo picked a fight with Oliver Wahlstrom, and that didn’t end too well for the south-Jersey native: 

    The money from Barzal goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
