No. 8 gets a big break after a scary-looking injury.
EAST MEADOW, NY -- New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson will be out week-to-week after he sustained a lower-body injury in their 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The injury will not require surgery.
Losing the 25-year-old at a time when the Islanders are trying to climb back into the playoff picture—currently seven points behind the second wild-card spot—the injury looked pretty bad.
It's a positive that he's avoided surgery. As of yet, he has not been placed on injured reserve or long-term injured reserve.
Head coach Patrick Roy said that his defense pairs will be fluid as they navigate games without No. 8.
They'll start the games like this:
Pelech-Pulock
Romanov-Mayfield
George-Cholowski
The Islanders have not yet recalled any defenseman from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.
They are back in action on Friday night at 7:30 PM ET against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Dobson, who has 24 points (six goals, 18 assists), is in the final season of a three-year deal and will be a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
He had yet to miss a game this season.
