New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson has been one of the best scorers from the right point since the 2021-22 season.
After the NHL introduced NHL Edge in October 2023, the league gave fans a new look into player tracking stats on the ice.
In compiling stats from recent seasons, New York Islanders’ defenseman Noah Dobson made the list of best regional goal scorers since the 2021-22 season.
The post is divided into various regions of the offensive zone, starting right in front of the net and continuing with new sections outward. At the blue line, Dobson tops the NHL in goals from the right point with 11, standing alongside two superstar defensemen.
On the left point, Victor Hedman tops the scoring in that department with seven goals, while Cale Makar leads in center point scoring with 18 red lights.

Looking further into his page on NHL Edge, the results match relative to his production across the board. Looking at his shot location spread, some of his best production in shots on goal coming from the right side, starting at the point where he has 57.
Heading a bit further down low, Dobson has in the 19 and 28 shots when shooting slightly above or below the faceoff dot, respectively; all of these numbers are above-average rankings.
At the other points, he has 25 shots from the center point and 14 from the left, with the former still sitting above league average. With the points sitting in the “Long Range” category of the site, he’s well among the league’s elite.
His combined 96 shots from that area are in the 98th percentile, and his five goals from there last season put him in the 97th. His 5.2 shooting percentage puts him in the 74th percentile, all of which are strong numbers.

For Dobson, this season’s numbers are not an aberration. He finished in the 99th percentile in long-range offense with 136 shots and nine goals, while his 6.6 shooting percentage was in the 81st.
His overall shot chart also spread out considerably this season, as he took a whopping 72 shots from the right point with much fewer looks down low.
While he took fewer shots this year than last, his production has earned him a high standing on the NHL’s new platform.
With Dobson's evolving offensive abilities at the blue line, his production on the right side will be something to watch out for as he enters the final year of his three-year contract and his restricted free agent status looms.
