Roy is going with Sorokin for a second straight night.
New York Islanders head coach and Hockey Hall of Famer Patrick Roy has elected to start Ilya Sorokin against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday evening, per Newsday's Andrew Gross:
The 29-year-old just made 28 saves against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday evening in a 4-3 win.
Roy had the option to go with third-string netminder turned backup Marcus Hogberg, who is on the NHL roster because Semyon Varlamov is out (day-to-day, lower body).
But he's going with Sorokin.
Sunday's start will be the fifth time in his career that he's been tasked with both games of a back-to-back situation.
His last back-to-back came on Jan. 15 and 16 of last season, when he lost to the Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets. This became the final week of Lane Lambert's tenure.
Sorokin is 3-for-5 on the second leg of these back-to-backs with two shutouts.
In his career against the Senators, he is 3-0-1, with a 1.96 GAA and a .943 SV%.
