New York Islanders forward Pierre Engvall, who was played on waivers Sunday with six years remaining on his contract, has cleared waivers.

While the Islanders organization still owes the 28-year-old his $3 million annual salary, $1.15 million of his contract gets buried in Bridgeport.

That means $1.85 million remains on the Islanders' books.

That leaves the Islanders with $213,000 in available cap space with a 22-man roster.

Engvall scored 10 goals with 18 assists for 28 points in 74 games last season, the first year of his deal. He was never overly impressive, and the Islanders are doing what they must to have the best roster and lineup possible ahead of opening night on Oct. 10 against the Utah Hockey Club.

Hudson Fasching, Liam Foudy, Fredrik Karlstrom, Samuel Bolduc, Grant Hutton, Marcus Hogberg and Jakub Skarek have also cleared.
