Simon Holmstrom is back on the ice with his teammates for the first time since getting hurt.

EAST MEADOW, NY -- New York Islanders forward Simon Holmstrom was back on the ice Thursday morning wearing an orange non-contact jersey ahead of their game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The 23-year-old has missed the last six games after he sustained an upper-body injury in their 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 29.

The Islanders placed him on injured reserve on Jan. 7, retroactively to Dec. 29, which means he is eligible to return when he's ready to go.

Pierre Engvall was reinserted into the lineup in his absence.

Holmstrom is in the midst of a strong third NHL season, with nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points in 37 games, playing on both special-team units.
