The Islanders head home after a 1-1-1 road trip.
The New York Islanders played a strong road game in St. Louis but fell 1-0 in overtime.
At 2:04 of the extra frame, the Islanders got caught up in the ice, with Phillip Broberg feeding Jake Neighbours in-tight before he beat Ilya Sorokin off the blocker-side post and in:
The Islanders go 1-1-1 on their first road trip of the season, returning home with a 1-1-2 record through four games.
Here's how it happened:
The first period was low-event for both sides, with the Islanders outshooting the Blues 7-6.
Sorokin was the standout player of the period, building on his strong start from Monday night.
He was aggressive and didn't allow rebounds, tracking the puck rather well.
The second period brought more of the same.
Sorokin was brilliant, and the Islanders had their chances to take the lead.
Bo Horvat had the Islanders' best chance halfway through the second after a deceptive Mathew Barzal pass found No. 14 all alone in the slot, but he sent the shot wide despite an open net with Joel Hofer down and out.
Then on the power play, with the Islanders going 0-for-2 in the period, Maxim Tsyplakov received a pass from Brock Nelson in the slot. The puck was rolling, which played a part in No. 7 sailing the shot wide.
Through two periods of play, the Islanders outshot the Blues 21-20.
Early in the third, Tsyplakov and Kyle Palmieri had chances right in front of the Blues net but couldn't find a way to send the puck home.
At the two-minute mark of the third, Sorokin dove back with the blocker to cover a loose puck for an underrated yet highlight-reel save to keep the game scoreless.
Adam Pelech blocked a shot off the chest at 10:53 of the third. He went to the bench in pain, down on his knees once he got there, but he seemed okay after a few seconds.
Sorokin made 28 saves through regulation, with Hofer stopping 31.
Ryan Pulock had a strong chance with 3:58 to play in overtime but hit Hofer in the logo from the high slot.
The Islanders have now been shut out twice over their last three games.
