The New York Islanders have continuously lost the battle with consistency this season.
This past weekend was a perfect example, serving as a microcosm for the entire 2023-24 campaign.
With every point so crucial and a playoff spot up for grabs, the Islanders pounced on the elite Winnipeg Jets early and often got out to a 2-0 lead before leading 6-1 after forty minutes.
The night ended with a 6-3 win, which snapped a six-game losing streak.
Then, on Sunday against the New Jersey Devils, the second of a back-to-back for both teams, the Islanders couldn't find that energy and determination that was present the night prior.
The result was a 4-0 loss, which put the Islanders four points back of the Washington Capitals for the second wild-card spot, and now have to wait until Thursday night to inch closer when they battle the Florida Panthers.

Why has this team, a mixture of grizzled veterans and younger players, struggled so much with bringing energy on a nightly basis?
