TAMPA, FL -- What started as an on-air segment for Jiggs MacDonald on MSG became a game-night write-up for New York Islanders statistician Eric Hornick.
Coined "The Skinny," Hornick has been writing a brief summary after each game while also diving deep into the stats.
And when we say "dives into the stats," we mean it.
From the Islanders reaching milestones or franchise lows to the oddest of streaks and storylines, "The Skinny" has provided broadcasters, media members, and die-hard fans to make us all feel just a little bit smarter.
After clicking the send button following the Islanders' 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Hornick has now written his 1,000th "The Skinny."
Here's what Hornick said about the milestone:
"It has been published after every regular season and playoff game for well over a decade. It actually debuted in the 2003-04 season, with the first game the Isles played after Peter Laviolette left the Isles. (It's gotten longer, and hopefully better, since then)
The written version debuted on Oct. 8, 2003, after the Islanders fell 6-1 to the Washington Capitals.
Congrats on what's been a wild run. There's no reason to think that Hornick's write-ups will stop anytime soon.
