Following back-to-back shutout losses, the New York Islanders headed back home with an opportunity to pickup a crucial two points against the Ottawa Senators.
The Islanders failed to do so, losing 4-3 in overtime.

Here's how it happened:
Matt Martin broke the Islanders scoreless streak, netting a wrap-around goal at 4:27 in the first period to make the score 1-0. Kyle MacLean found Cal Clutterbuck in front of the net, who then found Martin behind the net who wrapped the puck behind Senators goalie Joonas Korpisalo.
Brady Tkachuk got the Senators on the board at 11:46 of the second period. With a wide open look Tkachuk beat Semyon Varlamov with a glove-side wrist shot to even the score at one.
The Islanders took a 2-1 lead with a Kyle Palmieri goal at 16:22 of the second. Anders Lee got the play started with a chip out of the Islanders zone, which sprung JG Pageau who then won a foot race to the puck before making a spin pass to find Palmieri in front of the net.
Ridly Greig tied the game at two at 6:35 of the third period. Tim Stutzle and Greig found themselves in a 2-on-0 with Varlamov following a misstep by Adam Pelech, which ended in a Greig tap-in tally.
The Senators earned their first lead of the night following Tkachuk's second goal of the game. The goal came on the power play at 12:14 in the third to make the score 3-2 Senators.
Bo Horvat knotted the game back up at three with just 37 seconds to go. The goal broke the Islanders power play draught, and forced overtime.
Tkachuk scored on the power play at 4:36 in overtime to seal the deal on the game and his hat trick.
