DeAngelo gets another crack at an NHL job.

DeAngelo gets another crack at an NHL job.

With the New York Islanders losing Noah Dobson for the foreseeable future due to a lower-body injury, the team announced that they had signed defenseman Tony DeAngelo to a one-year deal:

Per Frank Seravalli, he is being paid the pro-rated league minimum ($775,000).

Just because the Islanders have signed DeAngelo, a speedy, puck-moving defenseman who can play a quarterback role on the power play, that doesn't mean he gets to stay with the Islanders.

Following the 2023-24 season, DeAngelo elected to leave the NHL, signing with the KHL's St. Petersburg. After 34 games, with six goals and 26 assists, he and St. Petersburg mutually agreed to the termination of his contract.

That meant DeAngelo was allowed to sign with anyone, but because he comes from a different league, he must pass through waivers.

We'll see if any team puts in a claim.

There's been a lot of talk about DeAngelo's attitude and how he is in a locker room.

He is walking into a really close locker room.

Getting a chance to play with the Islanders is a huge opportunity for DeAngelo to prove that he can still play in the NHL.
