Multiple reports on Monday indicated that longtime executive Ken Holland would be named the Los Angeles Kings' next general manager.
Holland, 69, was someone who the New York Islanders were interested in bringing aboard ever since they announced that they were not renewing Lou Lamoriello's contract on Apr. 22.
But LA's decision now opens the door for Marc Bergevin to join the Islanders.
Bergevin, who had served the last two seasons as a special advisor to Rob Blake in LA, was considered a top candidate for the Islanders. Things changed a bit when the Kings' job opened up, as Bergevin was in play there for the position.
One would expect Bergevin, who has already had preliminary talks with the Islanders at one point or another, to have extensive talks with Long Island this week.
