Mathew Barzal and Matias Maccelli traded red jerseys for full-contact gear Saturday, signaling a major step toward bolting back into the lineup for the playoff-hungry Islanders.
ELMONT, NY -- New York Islanders injured forwards Mathew Barzal and Matias Maccelli were no longer sporting the red non-contact jerseys at Saturday morning's optional skate ahead of their game against the New Jersey Devils.
Defenseman Ryan Pulock (upper body) remained in a red non-contact sweater. Forward Cal Ritchie (lower body) has not skated yet.
Head coach Pete DeBoer said that neither Barzal or Maccelli will play on Saturday night.
They'll see doctors and then the team will determine whether they'll practice or not.
