When the New York Islanders host the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night, the visiting team will be without forwards Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander.

Both fell victim to undisclosed injuries in their 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday night, and were sent home for the remainder of their road trip, which concludes against the Winnipeg Jets on March 30.

The Canucks did find a way to overcome losing these two key forwards, beating the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in a shootout on Monday night.

The Islanders are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss of their own, falling to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

However, if the Islanders can take advantage of a shorthanded Vancouver team, they'll find themselves holding down the second wild-card by the end of the night after the Montreal Canadiens fell 6-1 to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
