Islanders Beat Penguins 5-4 in OT

The New York Islanders announced on Wednesday that forward Hudson Fasching was placed on long-term injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 25.

Fasching left that day's contest against the Montreal Canadiens with a lower-body injury. The forward took a bad fall along the boards in the game and has not been in the lineup since, despite participating in a handful of practices.

Head coach Patrick Roy said Fasching did not travel with the team to Pittsburgh due to illness.

The transaction also opens up a roster spot following the departure of forward Casey Cizikas from Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The center suffered an apparent hand injury in the third period and Roy did not provide an update on him after the game.

Should Cizikas not be good to go on Thursday against the St. Louis Blues, Kyle MacLean is probable to get called up from AHL Bridgeport. MacLean appeared in six games with the big club, scoring his first NHL goal in his final game before being returned to Bridgeport.

The Islanders did not skate today and no corresponding move has been announced. The team will skate ahead of Thursday's game, so that's when Roy will likely provide an update.
