Islanders Send Camp Standout Isaiah George Back to Juniors

    Isaiah George

New York Islanders prospect Isaiah George had a fantastic camp. Not only was he the best player at rookie camp, but he held his own when the NHLers joined in.

After sustaining an injury at last year‘s rookie camp, which meant no preseason hockey for him, George got the chance on Tuesday night to skate in his first ever NHL game.

The 19-year-old taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft has the potential to be a rather strong defenseman for the Islanders for years to come.

George heads back to London Ontario for one final season in the OHL. He is eligible to join the Islanders once his OHL season ends.

Scouting Report: George has elite edge work that allows him to evade danger in the defensive zone and the ability to make crisp tape-to-tape passes to help the transition game. Although he’s not the biggest player on the ice, his ability to keep his structure and garner proper positioning with his body and stick, makes him extremely difficult to get around him, whether that be via the slot or the boards. George has an accurate shot and his goal is to provide more offense, building that area of his game, in his final season with London.

“Another year of development in the OHL never hurts. Specially for him — he can continue to develop playing on the power play or shorthanded and key moments late in the game.”—NHL scout
