Prior to Friday night's preseason game, the New York Islanders have trimmed their roster.
The New York Islanders started their day with 43 players on their roster.
Before Friday's preseason finale against the New Jersey Devils, the Islanders sent nine players to Bridgeport and placed another 10 on waivers.
The Islanders, once players pass through waivers, which is the expectation, will have 24 players on their roster.
"There's been some great development there, and we saw a lot of good stuff out of those guys," Lambert said.
When waived players pass through, the Islanders will be over the salary cap by $574,958 with 24 players rostered.
The Islanders rather not lose anyone to waivers, but with at least one more roster cut coming, Ross Johnston and his $1.1 million could be placed on waivers. If the organization feels that Simon Holmstrom needs more development after a 50-game NHL stint in 2022-23, he and his $863,333 are waiver-exempt.
"It's important, but at the same time, you're going to do what's right for the hockey club and what's right for the opening day roster," Lambert said.
NHL rosters are due this upcoming Monday at 5 PM ET.
