On Monday Night, the New York Islanders found themselves up 3-1 over the New Jersey Devils late in the third.
They won by a score of 5-1 after two empty-net goals. One of those empty-netters came courtesy of a struggling Bo Horvat, who snapped an 11-game goal drought.
Horvat's goal displayed the unselfishness of teammate Casey Cizikas, who stared down a wide-open cage but elected to pass the puck instead.
Horvat knows how to score goals, as that was his 37th of the season, but that one took some weight off his shoulders.
"I had more chances in that little stretch than I felt like I had all year. It's just a matter of it going in," Bo Horvat told The Hockey News. "I would like to beat a goalie here pretty soon. I think I would feel a little bit better, but definitely, it felt good to get one."
As for the pass by Cizikas: "Unselfish play by Casey to get that one over to me. Obviously, I had 36 goals, but it does feel good. He could easily have put that in the net himself, but it's just little things like that, that makes this team special."
Cizikas was on a goal slump of his own, now with none over his last nine games.

"Obviously, he saw him there and was looking for him," Matt Martin told THN. "We had a lot of guys do that over the years.
"Last year, Lee had two goals and an empty net and dished it. So I just think, in general, we have an unselfish group who wants to get their teammates involved as much as possible."
"Obviously, for Horvat, that's a big one, and then hopefully, he can start finding the back of the net. He's been playing well for us, obviously, a huge reason why we are where we are, but I know he wants to score goals. So hopefully, that can get him going a little bit," Martin said.
Cal Clutterbuck, who has been linemates with Cizikas since he came to the island in 2013, shared how everyone views him.
"I mean, you know Casey. Just happy-go-lucky. Everyone loves him. Always has a smile on his face all the time," Clutterbuck told THN. "I think most guys when you're on a two-on-one with an empty net, you take a look and see if it's possible. So, good play all around."
Teammate Jean-Gabriel Pageau was not shocked to see what Cizikas did and thinks most of his teammates would have done the same.
"I'm sure some guys would have maybe shot that, but not here," Pageau said. "We're a tight group. And Bo fit right in, and we love to see things like that, and I thought it was a great pass and a good finish."
Islanders captain Anders Lee said that play represented Cizikas to a tee.
"He's just a selfless guy. He's always been that way," Lee said. "In many ways, Casey does a lot of the grunt work and a lot of the dirty work and but he's always been a team-first guy. It's never about him. And that's what makes him tick.
"He's such a good person on and off the ice. He really just cares about the team and cares about our success, so I wasn't surprised to see him make that play, but obviously a tip of the cap for him for doing it."
