After a 10-year outdoor absence, the New York Islanders will face the New York Rangers at MetLife Stadium this upcoming February.
The New York Islanders haven't played an outdoor game since 2014 when they lost 2-1 to the New York Rangers on a frigidly cold January night at Yankee Stadium.
After a 10-year outdoor absence, the Islanders are headed back outside as they will face the Rangers February 18th at MetLife Stadium, as part of the NHL's Stadium Series, a league source confirmed to The Hockey News (matchup reported by The Fourth Period).
The New Jersey Devils will also host the Philadelphia Flyers at MetLife, the day prior, on the 17th.
The Islanders, nor the Rangers, have made official announcements about the event.
The Islanders have five players still rostered who played in the 2014 Stadium Series matchup: Matt Martin, Casey Cizikas, Cal Clutterbuck, Brock Nelson, and Josh Bailey.
Only Chris Kreider remains for the Rangers.
The Rangers can only be considered a home team at Madison Square Garden, so that means the Islanders will be the home team for this game.
Fans are wondering when UBS Arena will get to host a league event, we spoke with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman back in January about it:
So, the positive news is that it will eventually happen, but will take a bit.
As more information becomes available regarding the outdoor game, we have you covered here at The Hockey News.
