By Monday at 5 PM ET, the Islanders and the other 31 NHL teams must submit their rosters. As of Monday morning, the Islanders had 24 players rostered, with 23 being the limit.
The Islanders are also $574,958 million over the salary cap, and need to be compliant by Monday’s deadline.
However, to get roster-compliant, the Islanders must send Simon Holmstrom (waiver-exempt) down to Bridgeport for now.
That would also solve their cap issue, as Holmstrom is making $863,333 at the NHL level.
The Islanders could have waived Ross Johnston and his $1.1 million, but the deadline for that to occur to count for Monday's deadline was Sunday, given the 24-hour timeframe.
The Islanders could waive Johnston later in the week, so keep an eye on that.
So expect Holmstrom to be "sent down" at some point following practice.
You can listen to Rosner talk Islanders hockey on Hockey Night in New York with co-host Sean Cuthbert Sunday nights at 8 PM ET during the season.
