The New York Islanders have made their first cuts of training camp.

EAST MEADOW, NY -- The New York Islanders took their Thursday off-day to re-evaluate the roster after two preseason games. 

They came to the conclusion to cut their AHL veterans as they head to Bridgeport to begin their training toward their season opener on Friday, Oct. 15, in Rochester. 

As expected, the entirety of the projected NHL roster was not part of the cuts, which includes Ross Johnston, Karson Kuhlman, Brian Pinho, Grant Hutton, Dennis Cholowski, and Robin Salo. 

The following prospects also remain: William Dufour, Matthew Maggio, Ruslan Iskhakov, Arnaud Durandeau, Calle Odelius, Eetu Liukas, Kyle MacLean, Travis Mitchell, Aidan Fulp, and Reece Newkirk are still here per the NHL media site. 

Goaltenders Jakub Skarek and Ken Appleby remain. 

Isaiah George and Justin Gill were returned to juniors.

Due to the roster trimming, the players not participating in Friday's preseason game against the New York Rangers at UBS Arena will practice after a traditional morning skate.
