On Tuesday morning, former New York Islanders forward Rob DiMaio was hired by the Ottawa Senators as their director of player personnel and professional scouting:

The 56-year-old spent the last two seasons as the assistant general manager of the Anaheim Ducks.

Before joining Anaheim, DiMaio spent 13 seasons with the St. Louis Blues, joining them as a professional scout in 2008 before being named to the same role Ottawa had just hired him for in 2012.

He helped build the Blues team that won the Stanley Cup in 2019.

DiMaio spent 18 years in the NHL, playing 894 games with 106 goals and 171 assists for 277 points.

He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Islanders after they selected him in the sixth round (No. 118) in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.

Making his NHL debut on Jan. 8, 1989, against the Chicago Blackhawks, DiMaio only scored once in his first 16 games before the season concluded after potting 13 goals with 18 assists for 31 points with the Springfield Indians, the Islanders' American Hockey League affiliate at the time.

In 1989-90, DiMaio played seven games for New York, with no points, but did captain the Indians to a Calder Cup championship, scoring four goals with seven assists for 11 points in 16 playoff games.

DiMaio only played one game for the Islanders in 1990-91 and just 12 for the Indians.

In the 1991-92 season, DiMaio's last with the organization, he played 50 games, scoring five goals with two assists for seven points.

The Tampa Bay Lightning claimed DiMaio in the 1992 Expansion Draft, spending two seasons in Florida before bouncing around.

After playing for the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins,  New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Dallas Stars, DiMaio returned to Tampa ahead of the 2005-06 season, suffering a career-ending concussion the following preseason.
