Here are the latest New York Islanders updates ahead of Game 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
RALEIGH, NC -- The New York Islanders have had a day to reflect, regroup and rest after their Game 1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday.
Now it's time for Game 2, a chance for New York to even the series before returning home for the first-ever playoff game at UBS Arena on Friday night.
Puck drop is slated for 7 PM ET at PNC Arena.
MORNING SKATE UPDATES
Ilya Sorokin was the in the starter's crease at New York Islanders' morning skate after stopping 35 of 37 in Monday's Game 1 loss.
He was brilliant and will make his 11th straight start.
After going 0-for-4 on the power play Monday night, the Islanders did change up the gameplan for their top power-play unit
Rather than the usual 1-3-1 power play setup, the Islanders' top unit did a 2-1-2, with Brock Nelson and Bo Horvat a bit lower than usual.
Nelson was lower in the zone on the left side while Horvat did the same on the right.
Anders Lee was the net-front presence but also served as the bumper, while Noah Dobson was at the left point and Mathew Barzal was at the right point.
What this allows is for a bit more movement, with Barzal on his forehand, too,
The Islanders second unit remained the same.
"Our special teams have to be better, both power play and penalty kill," Islanders head coach Lane Lambert said. "We gave up to two goals on our kill last game. So we're making some tweaks to both things, and we'll see.
"We'll take it from there."
Josh Bailey, Ross Johnston, Simon Holmstrom, and Parker Wotherspoon remained on the ice after morning skate as they will serve as the extras.
Lambert shared that Alexander Romanov did skate on his own.
After stopping 35 of 27 Monday night, Antti Rannta gets the nod for Game 2, per Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour.
Their lineup will remain the same.
