The night also continues the growth of Bridgeport’s connection to the Islanders. In addition to changing their team name to “Islanders” from “Sound Tigers” in 2021, Total Mortgage Arena hosted NHL preseason games prior to UBS Arena’s opening. At the time, Bridgeport general manager Chris Lamoriello said, “Having the Islanders name associated with Bridgeport creates a stronger tie between the NHL team and the top development team” and Saturday’s festivities will be another step towards that.
