Islanders In January & February After being placed on waivers Friday, New York Islanders [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/new-york-islanders/latest-news/mathew-barzal-new-york-islanders-patrick-roy-all-star-game-2023-24-season] forward Julien Gauthier [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/new-york-islanders/latest-news/julien-gauthier-new-york-islanders-waivers-patrick-roy] has gone unclaimed, per Elliotte Friedman [https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1753856531613794324]. He now reports to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. Given his cap hit of $787,500, this move gives the Islanders just short of $5 million ($4.99 M) in available deadline cap space as of now and creates a second roster spot. Gauthier, who has played for four NHL franchises over his five-year NHL career, last played in the AHL during the 2022-23 season as a member of the New York Rangers. He played four games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, with two goals over that span. Career-wise, spending three seasons with the Charlotte Checkers from 2017-2020, Gauthier has skated in 188 AHL games, with 71 goals and 34 assists for 105 points. The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal worth $1.575 million and had five goals and four assists in 27 games this season. RELATED STORIES
