Gauthier goes unclaimed.
After being placed on waivers Friday, New York Islanders forward Julien Gauthier has gone unclaimed, per Elliotte Friedman.
He now reports to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.
Given his cap hit of $787,500, this move gives the Islanders just short of $5 million ($4.99 M) in available deadline cap space as of now and creates a second roster spot.
Gauthier, who has played for four NHL franchises over his five-year NHL career, last played in the AHL during the 2022-23 season as a member of the New York Rangers.
He played four games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, with two goals over that span.
Career-wise, spending three seasons with the Charlotte Checkers from 2017-2020, Gauthier has skated in 188 AHL games, with 71 goals and 34 assists for 105 points.
The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal worth $1.575 million and had five goals and four assists in 27 games this season.
