The goal restored a one-goal lead for the Islanders early into the second period. MacLean was in the penalty box serving a two-minute unsportsmanlike minor taken by Bo Horvat. It was as pretty of a first NHL goal as you could ask for, with MacLean getting the pass and skating in all alone on a breakaway before absolutely undressing Ilya Samsonov. MacLean went backhand-forehand, making Samsonov fall to the ice before cutting back towards the backhand and seamlessly sliding the puck into the net. MacLean was filled with excitement, soaking in the moment after celebrating this milestone.
