What a first NHL goal for MacLean.
New York Islanders forward Kye MacLean scored his first National Hockey League goal on Monday night.
The goal restored a one-goal lead for the Islanders early into the second period.
MacLean was in the penalty box serving a two-minute unsportsmanlike minor taken by Bo Horvat. He read the play perfectly and jumped out of the box to receive a pass from Cal Clutterbuck.
It was as pretty of a first NHL goal as you could ask for, with MacLean getting the pass and skating in all alone on a breakaway before absolutely undressing Ilya Samsonov.
MacLean went backhand-forehand, making Samsonov fall to the ice before cutting back towards the backhand and seamlessly sliding the puck into the net.
MacLean was filled with excitement, soaking in the moment after celebrating this milestone. His father and Islanders assistant coach John MacLean was also filled with emotions:
Here's another angle:
This is the sixth game MacLean has played in the NHL and is his first point as well.
