The New York Rangers (28-13-2) defeated the Seattle Kraken (19-16-9) at Madison Square Garden 5-2

Madison Square Garden, N.Y--The New York Rangers (28-13-2) defeated the Seattle Kraken (19-16-9) at Madison Square Garden 5-2.

Here’s how it happened:

The New York Rangers earned two power plays early in the first period, Jaden Schwartz and Justin Shultz taking penalties at the 4:18 and 7:01 mark.

Vincent Trocheck scored on the second power play to take a 1-0 lead. Artemi Panarin waltzed into the offensive zone to send a no-look dish to No.16.

Jordan Eberle took advantage of what could have been a smart play by Trocheck, taking the puck from Miller and creating an in-zone 3-on-1. Eberle finished the play to tie the game 1-1

Erik Gustafsson then helped the Rangers grab a 2-1 lead with a precision wrist shot at the 11:09 mark.

The Rangers surrendered 16 shots on goal in the second period, Igor Shesterkin standing tall for the Rangers in between the pipes on a plethora of odd-man rushes.

Blake Wheeler scored his sixth goal of the season, making it a 3-1 game on a tip-in from a give-and-go play he jumpstarted.

Kaapo Kakko scored to make the score 4-1. It was his first goal since Nov. 20 against the Dallas Stars, before his long-term injury.

Jared McCann scored a cheeky goal to cut into the Rangers lead to 4-2 at 14:24 of the third period on the power play.

Blake Wheeler would ice the game with an empty net goal to cap off the Rangers 5-2 victory.

Up Next: The Rangers play the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday at 10 P.M (ET) at T-Mobile Arena.
