Patrick Kane Signs With The Detroit Red Wings

The former New York Ranger rental winger inked a 1-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings according to multiple sources.

Accoridng to multiple reports, Patrick Kane has signed a 1-year deal prorated at $2.75 million with the Detroit Red Wings. When his contract is registered it will clock in at $2.05 million.

The 3 time Stanley Cup champion will reunite with former linemate Alex DeBrincat returning to the Central Division and skating for the third team and original six club in his career. 

The Detroit Red Wings are currently in 3rd place in the Atlantic division with a 11-6-3 record through 20 games. 

Kane spent parts of 16 season with the Chicagio Blackhawks, winning the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015. 

He was drafted 1st overall by the club in 2007, and won the Calder Trophy as there NHL's best rookie. He was chosen as the Conn Smythe Trophy winner in 2013 as the playoff MVP, and would go on to win the Art Ross, Ted Lindsey, and Hart Memorial Trophies in the 2015-2016 season. 

The 35-year old was traded to the New York Rangers on February 23rd, 2023. He  skated in 19 regular season games and 7 playoff games in a blue sweater. 

The 9-time allstar had a lingering hip injury when he arrived to New York, and had a successful hip resurfacing surgery operation over the summer in response. Kane was a free agent coming into the 2023-2024 season and patiently made his choice on where to play as he recovered from the surgery. 

The Red Wings play the Rangers on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, but it is doubtful that he dresses for the contest.
