The New York Rangers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 on Sunday night, scoring five unanswered goals to win the game.
The Blueshirts previously lost to the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan.18 and the Los Angeles Kings on Jan.20.
Vincent Trocheck scored to reverse the Ranger's fortunes down 2-0 in the second period, and Will Cuylle, Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, and Jimmy Vesey scored four goals in the third period to end the club's losing streak at two games.
Here is how it happened:
The Rangers found themselves battling uphill early. Panarin turned a puck over at his blue-line, Adam Henrique taking the puck in the neutral zone and finishing off a passing play with Leo Carlsson and Troy Terry to go up 1-0 51 seconds into the game.
K'Andre Miller and Alexis Lafreniere had a few chances on goal before Henrique scored his second goal of the game at 15:37 to take a 2-0 lead.
The Blueshirts slinked into the dressing room down 2-0 after the first period, having seven shots on goal and nothing to show for it on the scoreboard.
Miller was assessed a high sticking penalty 37 seconds into the second period.
The Rangers killed off the penalty, but four more penalties between both teams prevented the Blueshirts from finding a flow. Kaapo Kakko did not see ice time for the majority of the middle frame.
Vincent Trocheck scored to take the score 2-1. Adam Fox and Kreider connected on a billiards-like play often in the deck of cards when No.20 is on the ice, and Kreider set up Trocheck driving to the net.
The Rangers used their coach's challenge to negate a Mason McTavish goal, the challenge working in their favor. That prevented them from being in a 3-1 hole and from receiving a penalty if the call stood.
Cuylle tied the game at 2-2 with a strong effort to get to the net, tipping home the game-tying goal 10:10 into the third period.
It snapped an 11-game foal drought for the 20-year-old rookie. The Rangers had lacked efforts of this nature in their latest stretch, Cuylle delivering the game-tying goal with some snarl.
Cuylle drew a tripping penalty to send the Rangers to a powerplay at the 14:09 mark of the third period.
Artemi Panarin drilled home a one-timer feed from Adam Fox and Vincent Trocheck to take a 3-2 lead with 5:32 left in the contest.
On a quick zone exit, Mika Zibanejad hit Kreider in stride who took a shot and followed up by batting the puck into the net and off of Henrique's stick to make it a 4-2 hockey game.
Vesey buried an empty net goal to make it five unanswered goals for the Rangers 5-2 victory
