Try these on for size: One event that's worth evaluating emerged from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman's most recent media exchange in Canada. What made it worthwhile is the fact that the NHL boss shot down a month-old innocuous rumor about his NHL future. It was as rumors tend to be shrouded in vagaries yet there was the suggestion that Bettman might be retiring in the not-too-distant future. Believe The Maven, there was nothing at all vague about Bettman's face to face response. "I'm not going anywhere soon," he said for openers. "I love what I do. I don't have any plans immediately or even that I've focused on for the foreseeable future to do anything else at this point. "I'm going to do it as long as I have the energy and the passion and the owners of course are still pleased with job; that's not just me, it's the entire organization starting withBill (Daly) and the other 700 people that work in the league office."
