During the offseason, New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe is doing exactly what he is known for: fighting. A video recently surfaced of Rempe training with fans in Alberta, Ontario while showing them how to fight on the ice. The 22-year-old was actually teaching different fighting techniques to members of the Alberta Boxing Club. Rempe joined the Rangers in February and instantly became a fan favorite due to his constant fighting and aggressive style of play. Despite receiving limited minutes especially through New York’s playoff run to the Eastern Conference Final, Rangers fans were enamored by the enforcer. The crowd would erupt practically anytime Rempe did anything of significance on the ice. It’s nice to see Rempe teaching his fighting skills to others as he continues to embrace his enforcer persona. At heart Rempe is a fighter, but next season he is looking to become more versatile and impactful both offensively and defensively. “I want the fans to know that I’m nowhere at all satisfied in any aspect of my game,” Rempe said. “I know how far I still have to go and that is going to be done. I’m going to work every single day on every part of my game because I want to bring more to the table next season. Sean Avery Illustrates Rangers Perfect Shift “I want to play 8-12 minutes every night, I want to be able to play center or wing and get better defensively, but I have to earn all of these things. I want to work on my skating, my skillset, making plays with the puck, passing, and even fighting. I’ve got a lot of work to do, but as a sixth-rounder, I’ve always exceeded expectations so I’m ready to get after it.” The hope is that Rempe changes some parts of his game in order to become a more complete player. However, his fighting nature is something that will never go away and that’s a good thing.
