The Igor Shesterkin contract saga with the New York Rangers continues to drag on. We are now four games into the 2024-25 season and Shesterkin and the Rangers are still yet to agree on a contract extension. Kevin Weekes of ESPN reported that Shesterkin rejected an eight-year, $88 million contract from the Rangers and doubled down on the fact that he will eventually become the highest paid goalie in NHL history. “Hey, when it’s all said and done, he will be the highest-paid goalie in league history. And I think just based on the timing, he’s very deserving of that now, at this point in time,” Weekes said on NHL Network. While Weekes knows there is a world where Shesterkin gets $12 million per season or more, the most likely scenario is that he’ll be paid in the $11-12 million range. “And ultimately, could he push and should he push to get $12 (million)? Sure, why not? Should he push to get 12 and a half? Sure he can make the case, but I don’t think that helps their team as such, just based on where they are cap wise.
