Breaking Down All The Latest New York Rangers' Trade Rumors Defenseman Will Borgen very well might have cost the Rangers a playoff berth with his bum play yesterday at The Garden. "What's funny is that Borgen signed his Rangers extension the same day that The Hockey News did a story on how Kakko is now on Seattle's first line." There was absolutely no need for Chris Drury to impetuously sign Borgen, 28, to a five year $20.5 million extension. Not only that but the GM philanthropically raised him from $2.7 million to $4.1 million. And for what? Going minus 2 against Colorado and costing his team two points in a tight playoff race. Perhaps Drury was dreaming of J.T. Miller in a Rangers uniform. That could happen today or tomorrow or sometime when the planet Mars enters the NHL as an expansion team. Let's be honest Drury could have played the Patience Card and waited until this one time third pair Seattle Kraken earned a new deal after some more months of steady play. Then again, that made too much sense. As for possible acquisitions other than Miller there are 2025 centers who'll be available. Ever hear of John (I Never Should Have Left The Island) Tavares? Or Brock Nelson or Ryan Donato? Tavares as a Ranger would make one heck of a story; all he'd need is a change of pajamas!
